2020-21 Women's Cross Country Season

2020-21 Women's Cross Country Season

From the Coach - Rich Lehman

Our women's cross country team was able to take advantage of the lack of competitions this season. We were able to gradually increase our training volume, intensity, and frequency without the added stress of being race ready every other weekend. The result of this effort is a team that is fitter, faster, and more resilient than we were a year ago.

Greatest Gains - For unwavering commitment to training with a laser focus on making positive gains.

Georgia Waller

Georgia's gains started over the summer while she was home in Toronto but really took off once she was back in Halifax. At the end of last year’s cross country season, she was not even one of our two alternates for the AUS Championships. But by the end of this season, she was our top runner having run over a minute faster than her previous personal best over 5000m. She improved so much that she is now one of the favourites for individual medals at the 2021 AUS Cross Country Championships after not even making our championship team last year.

Tiger of the Year - For unwavering commitment to training and devotion to the growth of the team.

Hannah Trites

Our team included more new athletes than returning ones with seven rookies and one transfer. Without competition to organically build team unity, Hannah was instrumental in bringing them all together. She has been dealing with some health issues that have limited her ability to train at the level she would like, but she was still the first person at practice and the last one to leave all season.
