Rick Scott begins his 15th season as head coach of the Tigers. He has done an outstanding job developing his players and the program, winning consecutive AUS championships and recorded his 250th U SPORTS career win in 2021. He brings great passion and energy to the team and an impressive history of success. A three-time AUS coach of the year (2016-17, 2014-15 & 2012-13), Rick earned U SPORTS coach of the year honours at the end of the 2016-17 season. He is also a four-time Dalhousie University coach of the year (2018-19, 2016-17, 2013-14 & 2012-13). Rick had the honour of representing Team Canada as an assistant coach of the women’s volleyball team at the FISU Games in Naples, Italy in 2019) and served as an assistant coach for the Canadian Junior National Team at the NORCECA Championship in Tijuana, Mexico in 2010. Rick was inducted into the Manitoba Volleyball Association as a builder/coach 2021. 

Hailing from Manitoba, he has experienced tremendous success coaching women’s volleyball at the high school, club and provincial levels over the past 30 years.   Rick led Team Nova Scotia to a bronze medal finish at the 2017 Volleyball Canada U18 championship. He also has four Manitoba AAAA High School championships (2004-2007), two National Club Open championships (2007 & 2008), a U17 National Team Challenge Cup championship (2006) , U16 Western Canadian championship (2004), a Canada Games silver medal (2005) and Western Canada Games silver medal (2007) on his coaching resume. Prior to coming to Dalhousie, Rick received numerous coaching accolades from the Manitoba Volleyball Association, including recognition as the High School Coach of the Year twice (1999, 2004), the Developmental Coach of the Year (2006), Elite Coach of the Year (2007) and was inducted into the Manitoba Volleyball Association’s Honour Society (2011). 

Since arriving in Halifax, Rick has been very active in the Nova Scotia volleyball community, serving as the head coach of many of Volleyball Nova Scotia’s provincial teams including the 2013 head coach of the Canada Games. In 2009, he founded the Tigers Girls Volleyball Club. Under Rick’s leadership as director, the club has captured 14 provincial championships in 11 years.
