Hornby commits to Tigers for 2021-22 season

Dalhousie Tigers women’s volleyball head coach Rick Scott is pleased to announce the commitment of Ella Hornby for the 2021-22 season.

A 6’0 middle blocker, Hornby plays for the Western Canada High School Redhawks. In the 2019-20 season, the Calgary, Alta. native and her teammates went undefeated in league play to be ranked number one in the province for the season. They finished the year as the Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association 4A provincial champions.

A multi-sport athlete, Hornby also plays for the Redhawks basketball team who were also 2019-20 Division 1 City champions. For her efforts in 2019-20, she was named the Western Canada High School grade 11 athlete of the year and earned the grade 11 top female citizenship award for overall academic, athletic and leadership contributions to the school.

Outside of her high school teams, Hornby also plays volleyball with the Rampage Volleyball Club and has been named team captain for the last two years.

“I am beyond excited to join a winning program under Coach Rick,” says Hornby. “They have an outstanding volleyball culture alongside academics and community leadership, which are my three main values.”

Hornby will be studying kinesiology at Dalhousie.

“We are thrilled to add Ella to our team,” says Scott. “She is a strong, physical and highly-motivated athlete that has a tireless work ethic. She is an extremely committed student-athlete that possesses excellent leadership skills. Ella is someone that is very high in character and she is very well-respected by her teammates and coaches. I think with continued hard work and dedication, Ella will be an important part of our program in the years ahead as we strive towards continued success and excellence within our program.”

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced the cancellation of the AUS season, but the team is looking forward to the 2021-22 season.
