Vydykhan commits to Tigers for 2020-21 season

Dalhousie Tigers women’s volleyball head coach Rick Scott is pleased to announce the commitment of Talia Vydykhan for the 2020-21 season.

A 6’0 outside hitter, Vydykhan is a multi-year member of Team Nova Scotia, most recently representing the province in the Canada Cup in July of 2019. She trained with Canada’s U18 Youth team in Slovenia ahead of the U18 World Championship in Cairo, Egypt this past August and September.

An Eastern Elites all-star and a Volleyball Nova Scotia provincial championship all-star in 2017 with the Tigers Volleyball Club, she has also earned rookie of the year honours at Charles P. Allen High School in 2017 and school MVP in 2018. Most recently she was named MVP of the Dalhousie High School Invitational tournament in October.

Off the court, Vydykhan earned academic honours in the 2017-18 school year and high honours in the 2018-19 school year.

“I’ve wanted to play for the Tigers since I first started playing volleyball,” says Vydykhan. “I attended all the Tigers summer volleyball camps in the hopes of one day earning a spot on this great team! I am so excited to be a part of one of the top teams in the country while also having the opportunity to attend one of Canada’s best universities.”

The Hammonds Plains, N.S. native will be working towards a Bachelor of Science (Recreation) while attending Dalhousie.

“We are thrilled to have Talia commit to our Tigers women’s volleyball program,” says Scott. “She is a tremendous athlete, a dynamic attacker, and solid in the back court.  Talia is competitive and plays with a lot of passion and we believe that she is one of the top recruits in Atlantic Canada and also on the national stage.  As she continues to work hard in the sport, she will grow and improve as an athlete and has the ability to be an impact player for us in the years to come.”

The Tigers are currently undefeated this season and are back in action at the University of Winnipeg Tournament December 28-30 and open up at home January 10, when they host Memorial.
