(Halifax, NS) – The No. 2 U SPORTS ranked Dalhousie Tigers defeated the UNB Reds 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 27-25) Sunday afternoon in women's volleyball action at Dalplex in Halifax.

Dalhousie started the match strong in the first set, going on an 11-0 point run thanks to strong serving from Victoria Turcot (Halifax, NS) and unforced UNB errors. The Reds slowly started to inch their way back into the match but couldn't slow down the Tigers momentum. Dalhousie took the first set 25-14.

The Tigers got off to a rolling start in the second, earning six-straight points before a kill from Victoria Eadle (Gallagher Ridge, NB) put UNB on the board with their first point. Dalhousie continued to control the pace of play in the second and closed out the set 25-18 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

UNB continued to play catch up ball in the third set and were down six points at the technical timeout midway through the third. They were down but not out and battled hard to tie things up at 17 thanks to a seven-point serving run by Eadle and excellent play at the net from Adora Rooyakkers (Port Hawkesbury, NS). The Reds pulled ahead to lead for the first time in the match, up 22-20.

Both teams would trade one-point leads until the Tigers pulled ahead and took the third and final set 27-25.

Both teams played very well defensively, recording 53 (UNB) and 50 digs (DAL).

Courtney Baker (Bridgewater, NS) earned Subway Player of the Game honours for the Tigers. The setter was steady for the Tigers all game, recording 30 assists, seven digs and two kills. Sarah Dawe (Mount Pearl, NL) had a match-high 11 kills for Dalhousie and added 11 digs and a block, while Julie Moore (Halifax, NS recorded a match-high 12 digs and added three kills.

Robyn Anderson (Jaffray, BC) was the player of the game for UNB. She had five kills, two digs and an ace in the effort. Eadle recorded a team-high six kills and added six digs.

With the win, the Tigers improve to 14-0 in regular season play. The Reds fall to 6-7.

Both teams are back in action at home next weekend. The Tigers play host to the Moncton Aigles Bleues, while UNB hosts Acadia. Both games are at 7:30 p.m. Friday, January 24 and will be available on AUStv.ca
