Volleyball Tigers add Vienna Harwood to 2018-19 lineup

(Halifax, N.S.) - Dalhousie University women’s volleyball coach Rick Scott is pleased to announce the commitment of Vienna Harwood to the Tigers 2018-19 lineup.

A member of Nova Scotia’s provincial volleyball program since 2014, Harwood helped Team Nova Scotia to a fifth-place finish at the 2017 Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg, M.B., this past summer. She also represented Nova Scotia at Volleyball Canada’s National Team Challenge Cup in 2016.

A 5’10 outside hitter, Harwood has been a member of the Tigers Volleyball Club for the last five seasons and has helped them to three provincial club championship titles and a bronze medal in the division I, tier I U18 National Championship last May. She was named to the Nova Scotia provincial championship all-star team in 2015 and earned MVP honours in 2016.

Harwood has also put together an impressive resume on the beach circuit. The 2015 Atlantic U16 champions, she and her partner won gold at the Volleyball Canada beach volleyball championships in the Tier II division that same summer. She has also earned silver at the Atlantic championships, culminating in fifth-place finishes at the national championships in the youth and senior women’s divisions.

Currently in her third season with the Citadel High School girls volleyball team, she and her teammates hope to earn their third-straight Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation (NSSAF) title this weekend.

“I am excited about becoming a Dalhousie student and to join the Tigers family,” says Harwood. “I look forward to attending a school and playing on a team I’ve been watching for years. I know that Dalhousie and its volleyball program will challenge me to grow both on and off the court.”

An honours student with Distinction in both her grade 10 and 11 years, Harwood was a Lieutenant Governor’s Award nominee last year. The Halifax, N.S., native has been accepted to Dalhousie’s commerce program.

“We are excited to add Vienna to our volleyball program,” says Scott. “She is an excellent left side player with a strong all-round game. She is an extremely hard-working and committed athlete who continues to show growth. Vienna has a real passion for volleyball and we look forward to the great contributions she will make to our program in her years ahead.”

The Tigers captured their fifth-consecutive AUS championship title last season and placed fifth at the U SPORTS national championship. They currently sit atop the AUS standings and are ranked fourth nationally at time of publication.
