Tigers sweep AUS championship at home

(Halifax, NS) The Dalhousie Tigers swept the 2015 Subway AUS Swimming Championship this weekend at the Dalplex, as both their men's and women's finished atop the standings after three days of competition.

The women ran away with the competition with 466 points as they won their 14th consecutive championship, while the men's side won their 17th straight championship after a 394 point performance. Acadia finished in second-place in both the men's and women's competition after strong performances that saw two of their swimmers named the male and female swimmers of the meet. 

Acadia's Rebecca MacPherson was named the 2015 Subway AUS Championship female swimmer of the meet after she claimed gold in the 100m / 200m freestyle and 100m / 200m backstroke, while teammate Luc Boudreau was named the male swimmer of the meet after claiming gold in the 100m and 200m breaststroke as well as the 200m individual medley.

MacPherson was also named the 2015 Subway AUS Championship female rookie of the meet, while Memorial's Owen Daly took home the male rookie honours after claiming gold in the 50m and 100m butterfly and 50m freestyle events. 

First-year Dalhousie swimmer Phoebe Lenderyou set three AUS records in the meet, in the 50m back, 100m fly and 200m IM. The 100m fly record had been held since 2002, while the 200m IM record was set way back in 1994.

For Tigers coach Lance Cansdale, it was a very successful weekend overall.

"The best thing about the weekend for us was the fact that we came in unrested and unshaven, and we came in and made a lot of personal bests and we raced well," says Cansdale. "I think it showed the depth of our team and I think it sets us up very well for two weeks from now, which is our primary focus."
