Tigers open season with 2-0 win
Arianna Rushenas and Paris Axam socred for the Tigers in the win over the Sea-Hawks.
The Dalhousie Tigers defeated the Memorial Sea-Hawks 2-0 on Friday at Wickwire Field.
After a scoreless first half, Dalhousie scored twice in the second half, securing the victory. Dalhousie's defense held the Sea-Hawks to just three shots on goal throughout the match.
The first half saw the Tigers applying constant pressure with their offensive efforts, earning multiple corner kicks. Notably, Arianna Rushenas was active on the attack with three shots on goal, all saved by Memorial's goalkeeper, Leana Claude. Emily Toth was solid in goal for Dalhousie, making saves on the few attempts by Memorial, including a crucial stop in the 29th minute.
The second half began with continued pressure from Dalhousie. Rushenas opened the socring with when she found the back of the net with a lovely curling strike in the 56th minute. 20 minutes later Paris Axam extend the Tiger lead when she stripped the ball from the defender and hit the half volley shot. Memoiral got into some trouble late with Grace Nolan earning her first yellow card in the 77 minute and her second only six minutes later.
Rushenas was named the player of the game, recording her first AUS start, a goal, and led the team with four shots. Axam scored a goal for Dalhousie, converting her only shot on target. Goalkeeper Toth played a crucial role in the team's defense, recording three saves to maintain a shutout.
The Tigers hit the road on Sunday to battle STFX in Antigonish at 1pm.
