(Halifax, NS) – In the home opener for the Dalhousie Tigers women's soccer team, they took on the defending champion Cape Breton Capers. A few great passing plays resulted in chances for the Capers to capitalize on and take the 2-0 victory in this one.

In a quiet start to the match, both teams took their time in choosing counter-attacking runs, but neither side was able to create a scoring opportunity.

It took till midway through the half for a goal to finally materialize as the Capers were able to get on the board first. Ciera Disipio (Ottawa, ON) sent a perfect corner through to the far post for Erin Freeman (Halifax, NS) to hammer home just under the crossbar.

The Tigers were able to hold short spurts of pressure in the attacking end, but couldn't manage to get anything through toward the Capers goal.

With just the one scoring chance, the first half came to a close with the Capers leading 1-0.

The Capers came out strong in the second half, with Alliyah Rowe sending a great ball through to Caleigh MacPherson (New Waterford, NS) at the top of the box, but the chance was cleared away just in time.

Just a few minutes later, Rowe was on the receiving end of a fantastic cross from Rachel Leck (Pickering, ON) on the right side of the box and was wide open to tap it home to bring the score to 2-0.

The Tigers best chance came late in the half as they desperately pressured to find an opening goal. Zoe Brown (Halifax, NS) had a few hard shots from outside the box that gave Rachel Yerxa (Mississauga, ON) some trouble, but the Capers keeper was able to tip them aside to clear the danger.

Time ran out on the Tigers in this one, as the Capers came away with the 2-0 victory.

Alliyah Rowe was named the Subway Player of the Game for the Capers in the victory.

The Tigers will look to bounce back tomorrow when they take on StFX in a quick turnaround. The Capers will continue their road trip tomorrow when they take on Mount Allison.
