(Halifax, N.S.) The Dalhousie Tigers women’s soccer head coach, Cindy Tye, is excited to announce the commitments of Paige Forsyth, Kaitlyn Woodworth and Jaydn Cowie for the 2019-20 season.
Forsyth, a goalkeeper from Calgary, AB, has seen plenty of success on the field. While playing with Calgary Blizzard Soccer Club she won a youth provincial silver medal in both 2015 and 2018. In addition, Forsyth earned a women’s provincial bronze medal in the 2018 provincial tournament and was named tournament MVP.
On the high school soccer field, Forsyth lead the William Aberhart High School women’s soccer team to the city championship title in 2018, earning multiple Player of the Game awards along the way, and was named the soccer team’s Most Valuable Player.
Forsyth is excited to continue her success both on and off the field at Dalhousie, saying, “To play for Dalhousie is a privilege and one that I can’t put into words how absolutely thrilled I am to have. I promise I am going to work my absolute hardest to make sure I push myself and the team as far as I can, to get the success I know we will deserve.”
"Paige comes from the Calgary Blizzard Club who were silver medalists in Alberta and a team that trained and competed looking for the best competition in the West,” says coach Tye. “Paige is a technically solid goalkeeper with good size and a strong work ethic. We are excited to add her ability to distribute, give confidence to the back line, and push to strengthen the goalkeeper core.”
Woodworth, a striker from Bridgewater, NS, has been an integral member of the Nova Scotia Provincial Team since 2014. With her club teams, South Shore United and Halifax County, Woodworth has earned two provincial bronze medals in the last three years.
"Kaitlyn is a product of a dedicated club program in the South Shore and an integral part of the Nova Scotia Provincial Program,” says coach Tye. “She is an exciting attacking player who enjoys being on the ball to not only score but combine with teammates. A versatile player, she brings an enthusiasm to compete and get better each day. An exceptional student, we are excited to welcome Kaitlyn to the Tigers!"
Off the field, Woodworth has excelled in the classroom earning the Engineers of Nova Scotia Grade 11 Award for Excellence in Math and Science in 2018 and has been an honours student in her two previous academic years. At Dalhousie Woodworth will be studying engineering.
“I am very excited to become a part of the Dalhousie Tigers next year,” says Woodworth. “I am looking forward to the academic and athletic opportunities that Dalhousie can provide.”
Cowie, a defender from Vancouver, B.C, is also looking forward to joining the Tigers in 2019. “I’m super excited to bring my passion to a new team and a new province and to embark on a new adventure.”
A three-time team MVP, Cowie is known for her speed, enthusiasm, team play and coach-ability. In the classroom, Cowie is eager to be studying sustainability at Dalhousie and pursuing her passion for the environment.
Coach Tye is looking forward to her skill on defense. "Jaydn comes from a strong Fusion club who have a reputation for developing youth players prepared to make the jump to the next level. She is a versatile defender who can play a couple positions across the back. Her speed and willingness to communicate will help to add to our defensive unit."
The women’s soccer team ended the 2018-19 season with a record of 7-4-1 and lost to Memorial in the quarter finals of the AUS championship.
