(FREDERICTON, NB) The Dalhousie Tigers scored a 3-0 win over the UNB Reds on Saturday afternoon.

In their home opener, UNB dropped to 0-3 on the season while the Tigers improve to 4-0.

The match saw plenty of action on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.

The action was tight to begin with, but quickly opened up with both teams trading chances off some great runs. This was the first of a double-header of weekend games between the two teams.

UNB was composed on their back end, taking their time to set up before pushing the ball up the wings. The Tigers responded with aggressive challenges in the midfield, making it tough for UNB to get the play downfield, and subsequently turning the play the other way. The Reds stifled multiple chances from the Tigers in close, with two of Dalhousie's goals having to come from a corner kick and an own goal by UNB.

Nicole Solie (Saskatoon, SK) scored off the corner kick in the 42nd minute.

The Reds almost scored in the following minute, but failed to convert and went into the half down 1-0.

Both teams combined for seven corner kicks in the first half. Reds keeper Brynn Nash (Saskatoon, SK) stood tall, making multiple saves.

Dalhousie made it 2-0 early in the second half off the own goal.

UNB again responded by crashing the Tigers net and appeared to cut the lead to one before the goal was called back.

The action calmed down for the rest of the half with scoring chances becoming few and far between for both teams.

Clarisse Ramirez (Ottawa, ON) came close in the last 10 minutes, breaking into the Tigers box, her shot deflecting just wide.

A short time later, Maya Venkataraman (Summerland, BC) finished a series of short passes to make it 3-0 for the Tigers.

Nash made an amazing save late and UNB's Eve MacDonald (Fredericton, NB) had a great chance at the side of the Tigers net, but was denied.

Paige Jamieson (Calgary, AB) of Dalhousie was named Subway Player of the Game.

The two teams conclude their weekend double-header on Sunday, at 1:00pm, at UNB's BMO Centre.
