Nicole Solie to join women's soccer team

Tigers women’s soccer head coach Cindy Tye is pleased to announce the addition of Nicole Solie to the lineup this fall.

A native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Solie has been a member of their provincial team the last four seasons, leading her teams to a fourth-place finish at the Western Canada Games in 2015 and a seventh-place finish at the Canada Games last summer. She was honoured with an all-star selection at the Pacific Coast Challenge in 2014.

She’s also been a member of Saskatchewan’s High Performance Development Centre for five years; two of them in the Regional Excel Centre.

In addition to her provincial and club success, Solie was a key player on the Holy Cross High School’s senior girls’ team the last two seasons, earning an outstanding contribution award for her efforts.

Not only does Solie boast an impressive athletic background, she can hold her own in the classroom too. For the past two years, she has been named to the Principal’s Honour Roll with Great Distinction, an honour awarded to students who have achieved an academic average of above 95%.

“I am thrilled to represent Dalhousie and its tradition of academic and athletic excellence,” says Solie. “I am excited to begin my university experience playing soccer for the Tigers.”

Solie will graduate from Holy Cross High School in June and will be pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree at Dalhousie in the fall.

“Nicole is coming to us from Saskatchewan Rex and their 2017 Canada Games program where she was one of the team captains,” says Coach Tye. “She is a reliable centre back who has the ability to control her back line by anticipating danger and with the timing of her tackles. When she is one with the ball, she has proven to be a good decision-maker in helping her team keep the ball and start the attack. We are excited to welcome a student-athlete of Nicole's background to the Tigers!”

The Tigers will host Saint Mary’s in their first game of the 2018-19 season Friday, September 7 at 5pm on Wickwire Field.
