Noordijk and Base commit to Tigers for 2020-21 season

The Dalhousie Tigers are pleased to announce the commitment of Gabby Noordijk and Mattie Base to the women’s hockey team for the 2020-21 season.

Both Noordijk and Base played defence for the Oakville Jr Hornets of the Provincial Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) in Ontario this past season. They and their teammates were headed to the semifinal round of the playoffs before the season ended due to COVID-19.

They were also teammates during the 2017-18 season they also played together on the Oakville Hornets Midget AA team and captured a silver medal at provincials that year.

Noordijk played last season with the Hornets’ Midget AA team, while Base suited up with another PWHL team, the Burlington Jr Barracudas.

Off the ice, Noordijk and Base have both earned spots on their high school honour roll all four years at Thomas A. Blakelock High School.

“I am very excited to come to Dalhousie and to continue my hockey career,” says Noordijk. “I look forward to proving myself and hanging out with the team. I am very excited to be in a new city and to make new friends.”

Both athletes will be studying commerce at Dalhousie.

“I am excited to start a new adventure at Dalhousie and to get to know my new teammate,” says Base. “Go Tigers!”

The Tigers finished the 2019-20 season just outside the AUS playoffs, ending the season in seventh place.
