(Halifax, N.S.) Dalhousie University women’s hockey coach Sean Fraser is pleased to announce the commitment of Brooklyn Paisley, Elizabeth Klimm, and Nicole Hegyi to the Tigers 2018-19 lineup.
A 5’10 centre, Paisley comes to the Tigers after playing one season with the Vancouver Island Seals AAA, where she put up 38 points in 28 games. Before the Island Seals, Paisley played two seasons for the South Island Royals. In the 2016-17 season, she scored 56 goals and contributed 31 assists on her way to leading them to a provincial championship title.
“I am excited to see what Dalhousie has to offer,” says Paisley. “I can’t wait to bond with my teammates and be a part of the Tigers family.”
The Shawnigan Lake, B.C. native is the recipient of the Cst. Graham Holmes Memorial Bursary, and has received awards for citizenship, leadership, self-directed learning, and service to athletics. She is currently enrolled in Dalhousie’s Faculty of Science, majoring in psychology.
“Brooklyn is a pure scorer. Her release around the net is quick and deceptive and very difficult for goalies,” says Fraser. “Brooklyn has proven she can score goals at every level she’s played, and we are confident she will continue doing so for us.”
Elizabeth Klimm, a 5’3 centre from West Kelowna, B.C, played her last year of midget for the Pursuit of Excellence Academy. Klimm was a part of the 2017-18 team that won the Canadian Sports School Hockey League (CSSHL) championship. Before Pursuit of Excellence, she played for the Okanagan Lakers AAA team. In 2017, Elizabeth was awarded the Hockey Academy Student of the year, for her dedication to the sport.
“I’m extremely honoured and grateful to have the opportunity to attend such a prestigious and well-known university,” says Klimm. “I’m thrilled to also be a part of a team that is so competitive and well-respected throughout Canada.”
Klimm has also shown great strides in her academics, coming second in a Canada-wide writing competition. She has been admitted into the Bachelor of Science program at Dalhousie.
“Elizabeth’s puck skills are second to none,” says Fraser. “This coupled with her great vision makes her a terrific offensive playmaker. Elizabeth should help add some scoring to our offense this season.”
Nicole Hegyi is joining the Tigers after playing three years of hockey in Whitby, Ontario. She played her last two seasons for the Whitby Jr. Wolves Intermediate AA team, after helping the Whitby Wolves Midget AA team to a provincial bronze medal at the Ontario Women’s Hockey League (OWHL) at the end of the 2015-16 season.
“I am beyond excited to move to Halifax and play for the Dalhousie Tigers,” says Hegyi. “Playing varsity hockey is something that I have wanted to do for so long and I can’t wait to experience it all! I’m extremely thankful for the opportunity and am I am ready to kick off the season!”
A well-rounded athlete, Hegyi earned MVP in 2016 for both rugby 7’s and 15’s at her high school, on her way to being named their female athlete of the year.
An honours student throughout high school, the Pickering, Ontario native has been admitted into the Bachelor of Commerce co-op program.
“Nicole is a gritty forward with exceptional skills,” says Fraser. “She loves to play in the hard areas and her on-ice work ethic will make her a great U SPORTS player.”
The Tigers start their campaign Wednesday, October 10, hosting the St. Mary’s Huskies at the Halifax Forum. Puck drop is at 7:00pm.
