Hockey Tigers add two more to 2015-16 line up

Dalhousie University women’s hockey head coach Sean Fraser is pleased to announce the commitment of Burlington Junior Barracuda teammates Bianca Canade and Taylor Reichheld to the Tigers 2015-16 roster.

Mississauga, O.N. native Bianca Canade comes to the Tigers after two seasons in Ontario’s Provincial Women’s Hockey League (PWHL). A 5’3” forward, Canade scored five goals and had eight assists during the 2014-15 season with the Barracudas. Canade played two years in the Etobicoke Dolphins system prior to joining the Barracudas. She scored six goals and had five assists during the 2013-14 season with the Junior Dolphins, and helped lead the Midget AA team to a Lower Lakes championship during the 2012-13 season.

Canade also played for the Iona Catholic Secondary High School girl’s hockey team, earning team MVP honours in both her grade 11 and 12 years.

“Bianca’s quickness and ability to change speeds to create time and space will help her transition nicely to the University game,” says head coach Sean Fraser.

An honour roll student since grade nine, Canade is currently enrolled in Dalhousie’s Commerce program.

“It’s a great opportunity to attend Dalhousie University,” says Canade. “I am so excited to play hockey for the Tigers this season.”

Canade’s teammate last season, Taylor Reichheld joins the Tigers after two seasons in the PWHL.

A 5’5” forward, Reichheld played two seasons with the Junior Barracudas, accumulating nine goals and 12 assists in 85 games played. The Hagersville, O.N. native was named the PWHL’s most improved player after the 2013-14 season.

Before joining the Barracudas, Reichheld played the 2012-13 season with the Midget AA Haldimand Rivercats, helping them to a Silver Stick championship win and received the Jenna Stark Memorial Award for determination and a win at all costs attitude.

“Taylor is strong and uses her size and strength well to create offence and win one-on-one battles,” says Fraser.

Currently enrolled in Dalhousie’s Health Promotion program, Reichheld was an honour roll student since grade nine.

“I’m am extremely excited for the opportunity to start my CIS career as a Dal Tiger,” says Reichheld. “I think that Dalhousie and the city of Halifax will be a great overall experience for me.”

“As teammates last season, Taylor and Bianca give us some added chemistry right out of the gate,” adds Fraser. “They are both strong skating forwards who will add speed to our already quick forward group. We are excited to have both Bianca and Taylor as part of our Tiger Family.”

The Tigers kick off the regular season with four games on the road before hosting Saint Mary’s in their home opener on Wednesday, October 28 at 7pm at the Halifax Forum.
