Dalhousie comeback falls short

Dalhousie comeback falls short

The Dalhousie Tigers came up short against the St. Thomas Tommies saturday night at the Civic Arena, losing a close game by a score of 2-1. The Tigers have now dropped four games in a row.

The first period was closely contested and both teams were able to generate quality chances. Dalhousuie had great puck movement early in the game, especially on the power play. Despite that, they were unable to turn their chances into any goals. Midway through the opening period Tigers assistant captain Courtney Sheedy blocked a shot from Tommies defender Jessica McCan in the foot and was unable to return to the game.

There was no score at the end of the first. The shots were 15-10 for Dalhousie

The second period saw no scoring as well. The Tommies had all the momentum as they outshot the Tigers 17-5 in the period. Mati Barrett was outstanding all game and she made a number of great saves to keep the score deadlocked.

St. Thomas would eventually break through in the 3rd period on a power play goal off the stick of Lauren Henman three minutes into the period. Kenya Marcelline would add another tally for the Tommies seven minutes later on another powerplay goal. That would be all the scoring that the Tommies would need. The Tigers did convert on a powerplay goal of their own from Becca Chilvers with eight seconds remaining in the game.

The Tommies would leave the Civic Arena with a 2-1 win. They outshot the Tigers 14-5 in the final frame to bring the game shot totals to 41-23 for St. Thomas. Barret made 39 saves for the Tigers while Taylor Cook made 22 saves for the Tommies. Kenya Marcelline earned player of the game honors.

The Tigers will travel to UPEI tomorrow for a battle with the Panthers while the Tommies will stay in Halifax for a game vs the Saint Mary's Huskies tomorrow.
