Tigers lose close one to Panthers

The UPEI Panthers squeaked out a 1-0 win vs the Dalhousie Tigers at the Halifax Civic arena. The Tigers and Panthers played a hard fought, game with back and forth action all night. Ultimately Dalhousie couldn't turn their chances into goals.

The Tigers started fast right out of the gate and had the majority of possession in the first period, forcing Panthers goalie Marie-Soleil Deschenes to make 4 point blank saves early on to keep the Tigers off the board.

A power-play goal late in the first by Kiana Strand was all the Panthers would need to hold off the Tigers and leave Halifax with a win.

Despite outshooting the Panthers, the Tigers had no answer for Marie Solei Deschenes. The Panthers goalie was stellar between the pipes for UPEI, stopping all 25 of the Tigers shots to earn a shutout and Player of the Game honors for the Panthers. Mati Barrett was also strong for Dalhousie only allowing one goal on 17 shots.

The Tigers will be back in action next Saturday at Mount Allison. The Panthers tomorrow to take on SMU in Halifax.
