Huskies top the Tigers 6-5

The Dalhousie Tigers took on the Saint Mary's Huskies last night at the Civic Centre in a high scoring game. The game was back and forth between the two teams all-night and ended with a Huskies 6-5 victory. Mary Worndl came out firing, scoring three goals including the game winner for the Huskies. The Huskies sit in third with a total of 24 points and the Tigers in sixth with 18 points.

The Huskies took a total of sixteen penalty minutes and gave the Tigers 7 power play opportunities. The Tigers capitalized on theses opportunities and scored three of their five goals on power plays.

Early in the first period Gemma MacDonald notched the first goal of the game for the Huskies. At the 11:14 mark Moira MacDonald followed suit and strengthened the Huskies lead to 2-0. Shortly after their second goal, the Huskies took a cross-checking penalty, giving the Tigers a power play opportunity. Victoria MacIntosh was able to find the back of the net on the power play and took the Tigers into the second period only down by one.

The Tigers came out strong in the second period, answering the Huskies with two goals of their own to take the lead 3-2. The Tigers goals were from Jesse Rietveld during full strength play and Courtney Sheedy on a power play. The Huskies did not back down however, as they came back with Worndl scoring during full strength play and Kaitlyn Schell scoring short handed. The Period ended with the Huskies up 4-3.

Entering the third period Worndl snatched her second goal of the game to add to the Huskies lead. The Tigers then retaliated, scoring two goals in just two minutes from Lisa MacLean and Morgen Kidney. Worndl came up huge once again for the Huskies scoring her third and final goal on Jessica Severeyns to take the game from the Tigers 6-5. 

Jessica Severeyns had a strong game for the Tigers making 31 saves throughout the night.

The Tigers hit the ice again tonight at 7:00 for their final home game against the StFX X-Women at the Forum. The Tigers look to clinch the final playoff berth position over the Mt Allison Mounties. The Huskies now prepare for playoffs, as last night was their final regular season game.
