Tigers comeback against UdeM with a shoot out victory

The Dalhousie Tigers took a huge victory over the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues at the Halifax Forum tonight. The Tigers came back from the Aigles Bleues early 3-0 lead and took the win in shootouts. This win brings the Tigers record to 7-11-0 for the season to sit in sixth place in the AUS, while the Aigles Bleues sit in second place in the AUS with a record of 13-3-2.

Jessica Severeyns came in hot for the Tigers when she was substituted in for Jeanne Morin in the first period. Severeyns had a total of 30 saves throughout the game and gave up only one goal against. Amelie Dion started the game off firing with the game's first two goals setting up the Aigles Bleues with a 2-0 lead over the Tigers by the 12:01 mark.

The Aigles Bleues took an early lead in the first period with two goals by Dion and one from Danielle Eustace. Dion's first goal was during full strength play and her second on a shorthand shift for the Aigles Bleues. The Tigers kept firing shots and were able to slip one in to end the period down 3-1. Early in the second period the Tigers Sarah Robichaud snuck past Emilie Bouchard on a power play to weaken the Aigles Bleues lead to 3-2. The Aigles Bleues came out with less urgency than the first period and were outshot 12-7 by the Tigers.

Both teams came out strong in the third period with multiple scoring opportunities. Lisa MacLean was able to find the back of the net on a power play, evening out the score to 3-3. The Aigles Bleues did not let the Tigers comeback defeat them as Marie-Pier Arsenault notched a goal at the 11:44 mark. Jesse Rietveld made a speedy counter attack for the Tigers scoring just thirteen seconds after Arsenault's goal. The 4-4 score sent the game into overtime where neither team was able to finish the game off. The Tigers took the victory over the second place team in an intense shoot out ending 

Saturday the Aigles Bleues will host the Tigers in hopes of a redemption victory on home ice.
