Tigers snap losing streak with 3-2 victory over Mounties

(Halifax, NS) The Dalhousie Tigers (6-10-0) snapped their three-game losing streak with a 3-2 victory over the Mount Allison Mounties (4-11-1) Wednesday night at the Halifax Forum. The Mounties, meanwhile, have lost four straight regular season games.

It was the Mounties who struck first as third-year forward Kara Anthony potted her first goal of the season on the powerplay as the Mounties opened up a 1-0 lead five minutes into the game. It would prove to be short-lived as Marita Alfieri scored just a minute later to knot the game at one. Lisa MacLean gave the Tigers the lead seven minutes later when she scored her first goal of the season off a feed from Jesse Rietveld. MacLean had entered the game with no goals despite registering 14 assists on the season and being second on the team in points.

Alyssa Palmer-Dixon scored just 1:55 into the second period to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead. Both goalies stood tall for the rest of the period and made several crucial saves and the Tigers maintained their two goal lead going into the third period.

The Tigers got were hit with two penalties early in the third period and the Mounties attack intensified, but Jessica Severeyns was solid and turned them away time and time again. The Mounties would finally get one past Severyens when Mackenzie Lalonde scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season to make it a one-goal game with 6:19 left. 

The Mounties would pull their goalie in the final minute, but they couldn't get a shot on net and the Tigers came away with a 3-2 victory. Jessica Severyens made 34 saves in the win for the Tigers

The Mounties will try to get back in the win column when they host the University of Moncton on Friday night at 7:00pm. while the Tigers will be back on the ice when they face the UPEI Panthers on Saturday at 2:00pm.
