The Dalhousie Tigers are heading into the holiday break on a winning note after beating the St. Thomas Tommies 3-2 in a shootout Sunday afternoon at the Halifax Forum.

MacArthur netted the first goal of the game for the Tigers halfway through the first period. The puck was loose underneath the pads of St. Thomas goalie Taylor Cook who had three different Tigers trying to dig it free. MacArthur was the first to get wood on the puck poking it over the goal line.

Kenya Mercelline countered for the Tommies scoring off a draw inside of Dalhousie's zone.  The centers tied each other up leaving the puck free for Mercelline, who pounced on it and fired a shot just under the crossbar.

Cassidy MacTaggart kept the ball rolling for the Tommies scoring a minute later on a 2-on-1.

After one period of play the Tommies held a 2-1 lead.

Maggie Beaton knotted things up at two with a beautiful solo effort. Beaton fended off a St. Thomas defender and cut in on net, shifting the puck to her forehand and wrapping it around Cook.

Beaton's goal was the only marker of the frame sending the teams into the third period all tied up at two.

The third period went scoreless, as 60 minutes could not separate the two sides.

The Tommies looked like they would end it early in the OT period but Jeanne Morin came up with a remarkable glove save on a 2-on-1. Morin made 36 saves while her counterpart Cook stopped 22.

The two sides were still tied after the 10 minutes of overtime.

The Tigers were up first in the shootout but Lisa MacLean could not find the back of the net. Laura Henman was called open for the Tommies and made no mistake ripping a snap shot over Morin's shoulder.

Morin closed the door the rest of the way stopping the next four shooters. Jesse Reitveld scored to keep the Tigers alive in the third round and Jennifer Thompson won it for Dalhousie in the fifth round.

AUS women's hockey action resumes on January 9 as StFX hosts Dalhousie and St. Thomas hosts Moncton.
