Dalhousie Tigers women's basketball head coach Anna Stammberger is pleased to announce the commitment of Calgary, Alberta natives Anna Parsons, Katie Wuotila and Katie Crombeen for the 2020-21 season.

A 5'9 guard, Parsons has been a member of the Genesis Basketball Club elite team for the last two seasons after a two-year stint on the CYDC Elite girls basketball team. She is also a three-year member of the St. Mary's High School senior girls basketball team and has earned several tournament wins with each team while collecting multiple tournament MVP awards. 

"I am excited to move to the Maritimes," says Parsons. "I'm looking forward to starting my postsecondary education at Dalhousie and to become a part of the Tigers family!" 

Off the court, Parsons is a three-year member of the honour roll at St. Mary's High School. She will be studying kinesiology while at Dalhousie.

Both Wuotila and Crombeen come to the Tigers after playing for the Western Canada High School (WCHS) girls team and the Calgary Basketball Academy. They helped lead the WCHS RedHawks to a silver medal finish at the city championship before going on to win a bronze medal at the provincial tournament last year. This year, the team won gold at the city championship and were headed to the provincial championship ranked second before the event was cancelled due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic. They finished their 2019-20 season with a 30-2 record.

A 5'10 forward, Wuotila has earned honour roll status in all of her high school years so far.

"I am extremely excited to join Coach Anna's team in the fall," says Wuotila. "I felt a real sense of community that values hard work on my recruiting visit and I am so grateful I get to continue my career in an environment like Dalhousie."

Wuotila intends to pursue a major in commerce during her time at Dalhousie.

A 5'7 guard, Crombeen was named the WCHS team rookie of the year in grade 10 and followed it up with the team's MVP award in grade 11.

"Having the opportunity to continue playing the sport I love, meet new teammates and continue to grow with new coaches is very exciting," says Crombeen. "After visiting the campus, I knew Dalhousie was the best place for me. The community involvement, the energy surrounding sports and the atmosphere at the games brought a new level of excitement. I can't put into words how ready I am to become a Tiger and represent Dalhousie on and off the court."

Crombeen will be studying management while attending Dalhousie.

"These three hardworking and committed competitors are coming from very strong high school and club programs in Calgary," says Stammberger. "Katie Crombeen is a talented combo guard and court leader who has a natural instinct for the game. Katie Wuotila is a forward who plays a physical game and is a tough competitor. Anna Parsons, a guard known for her defence and passing has a great work ethic and energy. All three have bright futures at Dalhousie both in the classroom and on the court. They will be welcome additions to the Tigers improving our depth and culture."

The Tigers finished the 2019-20 season outside of the playoffs, with a 2-18 record.
