(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB Reds built a 23-point first half lead and never looked back, beating the Dalhousie Tigers 64-31 on Sunday afternoon, in the final game of the 2019 Stewart McKelvey Helen Campbell Women's Basketball Tournament.

Fourth-year guard Mikaela Dodig (Bolton, ON) led all scorers with 17 points for the Reds.

Hannah Chadwick (Toronto, ON) led the Tigers, scoring 11 points.

Marley Curwin (Halifax, NS) played a team-high 31 minutes for the Reds, scoring six points, adding four assists and grabbing a pair of steals. She was named the Player of the Game.

"I think it's what we needed to get back into practice this week and work hard for Regina next weekend, which will be even tougher than this weekend probably," said Curwin, of the win.

Hayley Tait (Yellowknife, NT) came off the UNB bench to score seven points.

The Reds finished the weekend with a 1-2 record, while the Tigers went 0-3.

"It was a really good weekend to improve," said Curwin. "We had two tough competitors in Winnipeg and Laval, some of the top teams in the country, and I think as a team we learned a lot."

Despite going winless, the Tigers are optimistic as they leave Fredericton.

Chelsea Slawter-Wright (Dartmouth, NS), who scored six points and had three rebounds in Sunday's loss, says they've got time to do some much-needed work.

"We still have plenty of time to work out the kinks," she said. "We have a short bench right now. We have a couple of injured players. As soon as we can all get healthy and work on those little things, we'll be good."

In an earlier game on Sunday, the Winnipeg Wesmen captured the Campbell Tournament title with a 69-64 win over Laval.

The Wesmen went 3-and-0 this weekend, while Sunday's loss was the only one for the Rouge et Or.

Next up for the Reds, the Regina Cougars Tournament, next weekend, at the University of Regina.

UNB will face the University of Alberta, the University of Saskatchewan and the host Cougars.

The Reds open the 2019-20 Atlantic University Sport regular season on November 2nd, at Memorial.

UNB's home opener is Friday, November 8th, at 6:00pm, against Acadia.
