Tigers defeat X-Women 76-58

Antigonish, NS – The Dalhousie Tigers played to a 76-58 victory over the StFX X-Women Wednesday evening on Coach K Court at the StFX Oland Centre. 

The Tigers opened up an eight-point lead in the first quarter, going up 21-13. Sophie Gaube (Hubley, NS) had a pair of three-pointers in the quarter for Dalhousie. 

The second quarter saw the visiting Tigers outshoot the X-Women by a 20-13 margin. Gaube added another trio of three-point buckets as they held a 41-26 advantage at halftime. 

The X-Women regrouped for the second half and they outpaced the Tigers 23-21 in the third quarter to close the gap to 62-49 in favour of Dalhousie after 30 minutes. 

Kimberly Kingsbury (Nepean, ON) scored nine points for the X-Women in the quarter, all coming from beyond the three-point arc. Diedre Alexander (Woodstock, NB) was a sharp shooter for DAL, draining a trio of three-pointers and scoring 12 points in the quarter. 

The X-Women continued to press in the fourth quarter, but the Tigers defense was able to shut them down, holding them to nine points as they closed out the 76-58 win.   

Alexander earned Subway player of the game honours as she led the Tigers with 18 points. Gaube finished with 15 and Robertha Charles (Montreal, QC) scored 14 and had 10 rebounds for a double-double night. 

Kingsbury was the X-Women player of the game, leading her squad with a game-high 22 points and 13 rebounds. Lucia MacKay (New Glasgow, NS) added eight points and Leah Fahey (Barrie, ON) contributed seven off the bench. 

Both teams will be back in action on Friday night for a home-and-home series as they tip-off at 6:00 pm in Halifax at the Dalplex.
