Reds top Tigers 75-56

(FREDERICTON, NB) Eva Tumwine (Fredericton, NB) had 22 points and six rebounds as the UNB Reds beat the Dalhousie Tigers 75-56 on Saturday afternoon. 

"We were a better team overall today, we ran our stuff and executed a lot better," said Reds forward Megan Campbell (Moncton, NB)"We really gave it to them on defence and it showed in our offence today." 

Campbell was named Subway Player of the Game for the Reds, finishing with six points and seven rebounds. 

This was the second half of back to back weekend series. UNB won Friday's opener 75-71. 

The Reds are now 4-0 while the Tigers drop to 0-4. 

Ja'Yon Leak (Charlotte, NC) also had a strong game for the Reds with 13 points and eight rebounds. 

Diedre Alexander (Woodstock, NB) lead the Tigers with 11 points and a pair of rebounds. 

Like Friday's game, the Reds and Tigers played an even first quarter with UNB having a slight lead 17-14.  

Tumwine had 10 points in the quarter for the Reds. 

"Eva has been a big player for us," said Campbell. "We expect a lot from her and she's really putting in the effort and really making a big difference in our teams' success." 

The Reds would pull ahead in the second and went into halftime up 34-24. 

The Tigers cut the Reds lead down to five points at one point, but a late push by UNB powered them to a 50-37 lead heading into the fourth quarter. 

The Reds would keep their foot on the gas in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Tigers 25-19. 

The Reds are on the road next Friday for the first game of a double-header with the Cape Breton University Capers, game time is 6:00pm. 

The Tigers next game is Wednesday, when they host the St FX X-Women.
