Emily Holt to suit up for the Tigers this fall

(Halifax, N.S.) - Tigers women’s basketball head coach Anna Stammberger is pleased to announce the commitment of Emily Holt to the roster this fall.

A 5’10 guard from Halifax, N.S., Holt comes to the Tigers a wealth of basketball experience.

Originally from Moncton, N.B., she represented Team New Brunswick at the U15 nationals in 2016. Holt was recently selected to represent Team Nova Scotia at the U17 nationals that will take place in Fredericton, N.B., this summer.

Holt helped the Citadel High School girls’ basketball team to a Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation (NSSAF) provincial championship win this season.

Before playing for the Phoenix, Holt played a key role in the development of Moncton’s L’École L’Odyssée junior varsity basketball program. The team competed in the junior varsity league at the AAA level and qualified for provincials for the first time in the 2015-16 season, where they made it to semifinals. In the 2016-17 season, Holt led her team to the provincial championship after averaging 23.5 points per game. She earned all-star and MVP honours in a number of tournaments throughout her high school career.

An all-round athlete, Holt also played on Citadel’s varsity soccer team as well as the Riverview Celtics Club team.

“I am looking forward to joining Dalhousie’s basketball program and to the challenge that playing at this level will bring,” says Holt. “I am eager to learn and am hopeful that I will be able to make a positive contribution to the team.”

Holt will graduate from Citadel in the spring and will pursue a degree in Medical Sciences at Dalhousie in the fall.

“We are very excited to welcome Emily into our Tiger family,” says Coach Stammberger. “She has the ability to shine both on the court and in the classroom and we are thrilled to have her in our program. We are especially looking forward to the immediate positive impact she will bring to the Tigers at both ends of the court.”

The Tigers will kick off their season in October 2018.
