May to join women’s basketball Tigers

(Halifax, N.S.) - Dalhousie University women’s basketball Head Coach Anna Stammberger is pleased to announce the commitment of Karina May to the Tigers 2016-17 lineup.

May comes to the Tigers after a successful high school and provincial team career in New Brunswick.

A 5’9 forward, May helped lead Bernice MacNaughton High School to a New Brunswick Interscholastic Athletic Association (NBIAA) provincial AAA championship in the 2014-15 season. They posted a second place regional championship finish this year with May averaging 16.1 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game.

An NBIAA Northeast region all-star this year, May was named the MVP of the Moncton Ladies Basketball Classic in both 2014 and 2015 and was an all-star at the Bill Dompierre Memorial Basketball tournament this year.

May has also played three seasons of provincial team basketball and travelled with New Brunswick’s U17 team to Edmonton, A.B. last summer for nationals.

“Karina has been a key player on one of the top high school teams in New Brunswick, leading them to a provincial championship in the last two seasons,” says Stammberger. “We welcome her to the Tigers and I look forward to working with her.”

The Moncton, New Brunswick native is a Principal’s List student and is enrolled in Dalhousie’s science program.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to be part of the women’s basketball program at Dal,” says May. “I look forward to all the possibilities the future holds and plan on making the most of my time both athletically and academically.”

The Tigers qualified for the AUS playoffs this season and will be looking to repeat their success in 2016-17.
