Sydney, NS - The Cape Breton University Capers (12-2) forced turnovers early and often, helping them win their second game this weekend to sweep the back-to-back match-up against the Dalhousie Tigers (2-12) with a final score of 68-53 in Atlantic University Sport women's basketball at the Sullivan Field House.

The Capers put pressure on the Tigers starting off, but Dalhousie was able to hit some big shots later in the quarter to keep it tight early. Shalyn Field (Toronto, ON) hit a layup in the final seconds of the first to make the score 17-16 in favor of the Capers after the first quarter.

In the second frame, the Capers turned on the defense, only allowing the Tigers six points all quarter. The huge quarter gave them a 31-22 lead going into halftime.

In the third, Alison Keough (Marion Bridge, NS) got a nice layup plus the foul for the Capers then later turned an offensive rebound into a bucket to put the Capers up 49-30. Dalhousie countered with a three pointer from Sophie Gaube (Hubley, NS) followed by an and-one by Ashley Cain (Toronto, ON). Capers were up 11 going into the fourth.

In the final quarter, the Capers were able to keep the momentum, and close out the game with strong defence.

For the Tigers, Ashley Cain led the team in points with 15 points. Gaube contributed 11 points off the bench for Dalhousie.

Keough led the way again for the Capers. The all-Canadian scored a game-high 20 points, and added five rebounds and a block. Colleen Keane (Scarborough, ON) finished with 11 points, with five rebounds, four assists, and three steals.

The Tigers will be back in action Feb. 3rd, when they face-off against Memorial at home.

The Capers will return to the court Feb. 3rd as well, when they go on the road to play against Acadia.

Both games will take place at 6 p.m.
