(Halifax, N.S.) – Perimeter shooting was on full display on Tuesday evening at the Dalplex as the visiting Acadia Axewomen (4-5) were able to top the Dalhousie Tigers (2-7) 91-56.

Acadia shot 47.6 percent from three, while the Tigers shot 33.3 percent, despite going 4-for-5 in the second quarter.

Both squads traded chances early in the first quarter, before Acadia guard Chanel Smith (Halifax, NS) caught on fire from beyond the arc, going 3-for-5 in the frame. Fellow guard Paloma Anderson (Pheonix, AZ) added four steals and six points as the Axewomen took a 30-14 lead into the second quarter.

Dalhousie fought back towards the back half of the second on the strength of their own perimeter game, as guard Sophie Gaube (Hubley, NS) hit three straight treys to help narrow the Axewomen lead to 39-30.

Smith would regain the momentum for the visitors however, netting her fifth three-pointer of the contest towards the end of the half as Acadia took a 46-34 lead into halftime.

The Tigers were able to close Acadia's lead to eight midway through the third, thanks to the outside play of guard Diedre Alexander (Woodstock, NB) and forward Robertha Charles (Montreal, QC) inside the paint.

The Axewomen would take over shortly afterwards however, winning the battle on the glass and securing a few clutch three-pointers, two of which came from guard Alyson Fulton (Merigomish, NS) as they led 70-51 after three.

Dalhousie was unable to solve the visitors in the final frame, registering just five points as the Axewomen secured the victory.

Smith led all scorers with 23 points for Acadia, while Gaube was Dalhousie's leading scorer with 11.

Acadia's next game goes on Friday at home against Saint Mary's, while the Tigers are in action next on Sunday against the Huskies as well.
