Tigers fall to Huskies 69-49

The Dalhousie Tigers were defeated by the Saint Mary's Huskies 69-49 on Saturday November 12 at the Dalplex. This was the second game of the week that these two Halifax based teams played against each other - the Huskies took away both games from the Tigers.

Dalhousie opened the game with a smooth layup from Michele Tchiakoua but the Huskies were quick to respond on a Tiger foul.

For the next several minutes, the Huskies offense seemed to take control of the quarter, pulling away with an early lead.

It wasn't until just over five minutes remaining in the quarter that Tchiakoua of the Tigers landed a jump shot to cut the Huskies lead to six by a score of 10-4.

The Tigers would only drain another three points in the first quarter and the Huskies would close it out by a score of 17-7.

The Huskies offense would continue to control the game throughout the second quarter as they tallied a total of 24 total points. Josie Gascoigne was the most notable player for the Huskies during the second quarter as she tallied an impressive 11 points.

The Tigers offense could only contribute a total of 13 points this quarter, allowing the Huskies to have a comfortable lead of 41-20 heading into the second half of the game.

Throughout the second half of the game, the Tigers defense found some momentum as they did not allow the Huskies offense to score as many points in second half of the game as they did in the first.

The Tigers tried to claw their way back in the fourth quarter outscoring the Huskies 18-12 but it would not be enough as the final score of the game went in favour of SMU, 69-49.

The Subway player of the game was Josie Gascoigne. Gascoigne had three steals and 11 total points on the night.

Kennisha-Shanice Luberisse led the Huskies to victory as she recorded a team high of 13 points during the battle.

Tigers player Robertha Charles had a team high 11 points for the squad.

The Tigers next home game will be Thursday November 17 against the StFX X-Women. Game time is 6 pm.

The Saint Mary's Huskies host the UNB Varsity Reds on Friday November 18 at 6 pm.
