Barresi joins 2015-16 line up

Dalhousie University women’s basketball head coach Anna Stammberger is pleased to announce the commitment of Michela Barresi to the Tigers 2015-16 roster.

A 6’0 post, Barresi is currently the top scorer and rebounder for the St. Mark’s High School basketball team. Her team’s MVP in both the 2013 and 2014 seasons, she was also the ESPN Orlando Sports Centre Tournament MVP in 2014.

The Manotik, O.N. native plays for the Ottawa Nationals in the JUEL of Ontario league who are currently ranked fifth in the 14-team league. Before coming to the JUEL, Barresi played in the Eastern Ontario Basketball League. She led the Gloucester Wolverines in rebounds and was in the top two in scoring last season and helped lead the Goulbourn Hornets to a provincial championship in 2013.

“I couldn’t be more proud to attend Dalhousie and become the newest member of the Tiger family,” says Barresi.  “At Dalhousie, I know I’ll not only receive a quality education, but I’ll also get the opportunity to play for a tremendously hard-working and talented basketball team. I look forward to wearing the black and gold with great pride and contributing to the team with my defensive and rebounding skills.”

Barresi has a passion for helping others and recently received a Youth Philanthropy Initiative Award after presenting to her school and in front of a panel of judges. She won $5,000 to be donated to the charity of her choice.

“We’re very excited to have Michela join our Tiger family,” says Coach Stammberger. “Her size and athleticism will make us better in the post position. She has a terrific work ethic and her dedication to community involvement is a great fit in our team culture.”

Michela will graduate from St. Mark’s High School this June and is enrolled in Dalhousie’s psychology program.
