Dalhousie overcomes early deficit to defeat UPEI, 76-57

(Charlottetown, PE) – Despite a hot first quarter by UPEI, Dalhousie was able to stifle the Panthers' offence for the remaining three quarters to win on the road, 76-57 at the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre in front of 150 fans Friday night.

The Panthers came out shooting in the first quarter and jumped out to an early 11-point lead after the first quarter. UPEI was able to hold onto their lead heading into the half up 28-20. Second year forward, Kiera Rigby (Charlottetown, PE) provided the spark off the bench leading the way with 6 points and 4 rebounds.The second half saw the momentum shift in Dalhousie's favour as they started the third quarter with a 7-0 run forcing UPEI to take an early time out. The Tigers did not look back from there as they outscored the Panthers 31-16 in the quarter to take over the lead, 51-44.

Dalhousie continued to control the second half on the defensive end as they ran away with the game in the final quarter. Holding UPEI to only 13 points in the fourth quarter, the Tigers came out victorious, winning 76-57.

Courtney Thompson (Saint John, NB) led the Tigers with 14 points, 10 rebounds and three assists earning her AUS Subway Player of the Game honours.

Top performer for UPEI was Kiera Rigby with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Dalhousie (5-2) and UPEI (4-4) face off again Saturday night at 6:00pm at the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre in Charlottetown, PE.
