(St. John's, N.L.) The first ranked Dalhousie Tigers spoiled the Memorial Sea-Hawks home opener on Saturday with an 80-74 overtime victory in AUS women's basketball at the Field House.

The Tigers were off to a hot start, taking the first quarter 17-13, but the Sea-Hawks came back strong in the second quarter, outscoring Dalhousie 21-11. At the end of the third Memorial was still leading with four points over Dalhousie.

The pressure was on in the fourth and while it looked like the Tigers would take the game 65-62 with three seconds to go, Megan Robinson (Waterloo, O.N.) made a last attempt from before half court, earning the Sea-Hawks a buzzer beater that would tie it up 65-65, throwing the game into overtime.

Despite their renewed chance to take the game, the Sea-Hawks were unable to catch the Tigers who outscored them 15-9 in the extra five minutes.

Courtney Thompson (Saint John, N.B.) led the Tigers in the win with 22 points and 6 rebounds, while Tessa Stammberger (Kensington, P.E.) added 20 points and 6 rebounds of her own.

Robinson led the Sea-Hawks with 21 points. Tianna Brown (Douglas, AZ) was close behind at 18 points and 13 rebounds.

The Subway AUS Player of the Game for Dalhousie was Stammberger. Robinson took the honours for Memorial.
