Tigers Track Classic

The annual Tigers Track Classic turned out to be a huge success! The meet took place at the Canada Games Centre this Saturday, February 8. The meet consisted of University and track and field clubs across the Nova Scotia.

The day got off to an early start for the jumpers, the women started the day with high jump. Although the Tigers were missing the all-star jumper, Rebecca Haworth, Dalhousie's Macayla Cullen stepped up to the plate, taking first place in the event, she also won first place in women's long jump. Dalhousie jumper, Chas Smith, walked away with first place in men's (18-19) high jump and StFX's, Jake McKenna took first in men's (20-34) high jump. AUS record holder, Sarah Taplin, took first place in triple-jump with the men's 1000 meter run. StFX runner, Alex Neuffer, placed first in men's 3000 meter run for the 18-19 age group and SMU's John Kuto placed first in the 35+ age group. The Tigers took another first place in men's 1500, ran by Will Russell along with Cameron Taylor from Saint Mary's (18an 11.24m jump for the Tigers. Andre Edwards from Saint Mary's won men's (18-19) long-jump and X-Man, Bennet Munroe, took first in men's (20-34) long jump.

Dispite the dry air on the track there were lots of personnel best ran by the runners. Dalhousie men cleaned up in the 300 meter dash event with, Kyle Scott (18-19) and Issac Norman (20-34) placing first in their age group. Eilish Macquarrie from StFX won the women's 300 meter dash (20-34). X-Man, Demetrius Ferguson, placed first in men's 60m dash (12-34) and Shannay Beals placed first for Dalhousie in the women's 60m dash (12-34). X-women, Elizabeth MacDonald won first in women's 1000 meter run and teammate, Scott Donald placed first in -19) and X-Man Bryden Tate (20-34). The women's 600 meter run was won by Tiger, Michelle Reddy. The Tigers women's relay team ran strong, taking home the 4X400 meter relay, causing the crowd to roar.

All in all, the event was very successful and teammates expressed sincere sportsmanship to the other teams, giving the event a great atmosphere for everyone. The teams will be back in action at the University of Moncton, Saturday, February 22.
