2015-16 Season Preview

MEN

The 2015-16 Dalhousie men’s track and field team is poised to become one of the most well rounded teams in Dalhousie track and field history. With nationally ranked athletes across all event groups, the team is one of the most balanced in the CIS.

The Tigers are led once again by the jumping trio of Jordan Bruce, Chas Smith and Devin Errington, who were all CIS medallists in 2015.  They will be joined by national team hurdler Matthew Coolen and NSSAF 400m record holder Mike van der Poel in the sprints; transfer student and CIS top five finisher Adam Karakolis in the throws and FISU cross country team member Matt McNeil in the distance events.  Returning AUS individual champions Josh Lunda (60m) and Jake Wing (1000m) will add much needed depth.

While still very young, this is a team to watch for this season at both the conference and national level.

WOMEN

As has been the case for over two decades, the Tigers women’s track and field team enter the season as defending AUS champions.  The team is as strong as ever and is eager to begin the defence of their title.

The Tigers are thrilled to welcome back Celia Peters who will be using her fifth year of eligibility as she pursues an MBA. Peters is a two-time individual CIS medallist with loads of experience.

The Tigers are also returning AUS individual gold medallists Chantelle Robbertse (pentathlon, long jump), Sarah Taplin (60m H, triple jump), Macayla Cullen (high jump), Shawna McKay (300m) and Colleen Wilson (1500m, 3000m).

Look for standout seasons from AUS cross country silver medallist Michelle Reddy, team captain and pentathlete Jessica Shannon and rookie high jumper Riley van den Heuvel.
