Day commits to Tigers for 2022-23 season

Dalhousie Tigers women’s track and field and cross country head coach Richard Lehman is pleased to announce the commitment of Sofia Day for the 2022-23 season.

Hailing from West Vancouver, British Columbia, Day races for the West Vancouver Track & Field Club where in 2021, she won a bronze medal in the 800m at the provincial championship.

The middle-distance runner also competes for Sentinel Secondary School where she helped lead their 2019 record-breaking senior women's cross country team to gold at the provincial championship. Day also won a bronze medal in 2021 as part of the senior women's cross-country team at the provincial championship.

“I’m super stoked to be able to train and compete as a Dalhousie Tiger with such an amazing group of athletes and coaches,” says Day. “I believe that Dal is the perfect place for me to reach my individual goals as well as contribute to the success of my team. Coming from BC, I can’t wait to spend some time on the east coast.”

Day has a 96% average and is a multi-year member of the honor roll. She will be studying science at Dalhousie.

She also played club volleyball from 2015-2022 with British Columbia Olympic Volleyball Club, winning a silver medal at the 2018 provincials and a gold medal in the 2019 provincials. Day also earned MVP honours on her high school volleyball team.

“Sofia's combination of raw talent and versatility is exactly what our women's middle distance program needs,” says Lehman “Coming from a multi-sport background, she has the athleticism to contribute all the way from the 4X400m to cross country.”

The women’s track and field team is looking forward to defending their AUS championship title when current COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.
