Spoozak commits to Tigers for 2020-21

Dalhousie Tigers track and field head coach Rich Lehman is pleased to announce the commitment of Lily Spoozak for the 2020-21 season.

Hailing from London, Ont., Spoozak competes for the London Western Track and Field Club. She won a bronze medal in shot put at the 2019 U18 Athletics Ontario Provincial Championships and finished eighth in discus at the 2019 Royal Canadian Legion National Track and Field Championship with a throw of 35.84m. Along with her London Western TFC teammates, she won the Athletics Ontario overall club titles for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons.

Spoozak also competed for the Catholic Central High School track and field team, winning the Western Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Association gold medal in shot put and silver medal in discus during the 2018-19 season. She went on to compete at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations championships where she finished in sixth and 12th in those events, respectively.

A multisport athlete in high school, Spoozak is a three-time winner of the track and field team’s MVP award. In May she won the London-Middlesex S.P.E.C.T.R.A. Award for outstanding sportsmanship, participation, excellence, character, teamwork, respect and achievement.

“I am thrilled and honoured to have the opportunity to further my education and athletics career at Dalhousie,” say Spoozak. “I can’t wait to work alongside such high-caliber athletes and to compete as a Tiger!”

A multi-year honour roll student, Spoozak has also earned three Honour Society gold medals for achieving the highest overall average in the academic year. Spoozak will be studying medical sciences at Dalhousie.

“We're excited to add Lily to our already regionally dominant women's throws program,” says Lehman. “Her shot put results speak for themselves and we believe that she will have no problem adding the weight throw to her list of events.”
