Gaudry commits to Tigers for 2021-22 season

Dalhousie Tigers women’s track and field head coach Rich Lehman is pleased to announce the commitment of Abbigael Gaudry for the 2021-22 season.

A pentathlete from Windsor Junction, N.S., Gaudry holds Nova Scotia records in the midget long jump, intermediate 100m hurdles and indoor midget pentathlon. Training with Sackville Chebucto Athletics, she was named to Team Nova Scotia/Nunavut for both the 2018 and 2019 editions of the National Legion Track and Field Championships. She placed sixth in the heptathlon in 2019 and eighth in both the 200m hurdles and long jump at the 2018 event. In 2018 she was named Athletics Nova Scotia’s U16 female athlete of the year.

Gaudry won several medals at the 2019 Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation (NSSAF) track and field championships with Lockview High School. She won gold in the 80m hurdles, long jump and the 4x100m relay with an NSSAF record time. She also earned a silver in the 4x400m, bronze in javelin and finished fourth in high jump that year. She was named the 2018-19 Lockview High School track and field MVP for her efforts.

“I’m super excited to start the next step in my journey,” says Gaudry. “I’ve grown up watching Dalhousie compete and never imagined that one day I would get to train with and represent such a great university. The coaches are awesome and exactly what I need to take me to the next level. I can’t wait to be a Tiger!”

A three-year member of the Lockview Principle’s List and the 2017-18 Freshman Scholar Athlete award winner, Gaudry will be studying kinesiology while at Dalhousie.

“Abbi is one of the best all-around track and field athletes to come out of Atlantic Canada in recent years,” says Lehman. “We believe that she is already prepared to compete at the national level in the pentathlon and she is a medal threat at the conference level in the hurdles, high jump, and long jump. She will work primarily with our jumps and combined events coach Simon Watts and will make a formidable duo with our current team MVP Lorena Heubach.”

The women’s track and field team has won the last 31 AUS conference championships and hope to secure their 32nd at the end of the 2021-22 season.
