Toba-Oluboka & Hendricks win at JumpStart Open

(Moncton, NB) - At the 2019 Jumpstart Athletics meet at l'Universite de Moncton, the Tigers opened with national distances in the throws and first place wins in jumps!

Second-year thrower Temi Toba-Oluboka (Calgary, AB) earned herself a fourth-place ranking in the U SPORTS women's weight throw with a big show of 16.22m on her final attempt. In shot put she came out strong taking second place with an 11.51m throw, in December she threw an 11.77m that placed her 12th in U SPORTS rankings with more to come. Teammate Brooklynn Rutherford (Truro, NS) came in just behind with a best of 10.71m to take third in the meet.

Andre Hendricks (Malvern, Jamacia) currently in his second-year of eligibility, looked strong and healthy to throw a personal best of 14.98m in the shot put. The throw earned him a sixth-place U SPORTS ranking, a perfect spot to be in gearing up for the next bit of the season.  

In the jumps group, Kaelan Schmidt (Sutherlands River, NS) lead the way with first-place finishes in the high jump (1.85m) and the long jump (6.27m). First-year Elyas Harris, showed great athletism, recording a 5.91m distance in the 18-19 men's long jump category. 

The Tigers will look to continue to improve as they prepare to travel to Montreal at the end of January to participate in the McGill Team Challenge.
