Tigers leading after first day of AUS Championships

Dalhousie swimmers found themselves atop of the podium in seven of the 12 events at the end of day one of the 2022 Subway AUS Swimming Championships presented Bell. Acadia won three events, while Memorial swam to victory in two.   

AUS women's swimmer of the year Reagan Crowell (Dalhousie) won the first final of the meet taking the 200m freestyle in a time of 2:01:43, bettering her U SPORTS-qualifying preliminary time by more than a second. Fellow Tigers Abbey Nichols and Emilie Schofield were second and third, respectively.  

In the men's 200m freestyle event, AUS swimmer of the year Noah Mascoll-Gomes was the first to the wall with a U SPORTS-qualifying time of 1:50.24 for Dalhousie. Acadia's Dean Sangster and Bo Stokesbury-Price were second and third, respectively. 

Acadia's Jessica Pelletier topped the podium in the women's 50m backstroke with a time of 29.37. Memorial's Ali Warren touched in at 29.44 for second, followed by Dalhousie's Martine Nyhof in third. Pelletier and Warren posted U SPORTS-qualifying times. 

Christian Payne won the men's event, posting a U SPORTS-qualifying time of 25.28 for the Tigers. Fellow Tiger Liam Ferguson posted a U SPORTS-qualifying time of his own, touching the wall in a time of 25.82 to earn silver. Acadia's Aaron Day was third. 

Dalhousie's Abbey Corish swam to a first-place finish in the women's 100m breaststroke with teammate Victoria MacDonald following in second. Acadia's Elizabeth Morrison was third. 

Adam Bouma took home gold for Dalhousie in the men's 100m breaststroke event. He was followed by Acadia's Gordon Shortt and AUS rookie of the year Matthew Whelan (Memorial).  

Memorial's Heidi Perry won the women's 100m butterfly, with Dalhousie's Veronica Hollick and Acadia's Aideen Nelson taking second and third place, respectively. 

Kenny Shane swam to victory in the men's 100m butterfly with a U SPORTS-qualifying time of 54.70. Dalhousie's Frederick Chandler-Baas and Noah Mascoll-Gomes took silver and bronze. 

Emilie Schofield led a Dalhousie podium sweep in the women's 400m IM. She touched in with a U SPORTS-qualifying time of 4:58.26. Teammates Mikhaela-Reign Johnson and Madison Penney were second and third, respectively. 

Memorial's Matthew Whelan won gold in the men's 400m IM. He was followed closely by Tigers swimmers Hayden Woodrow and James Quigley in second and third, respectively. 

The Dalhousie women's 4x100m relay team of Emilie Schofield, Reagan Crowell, Elaine Gentleman and Martine Nyhof won gold with a U SPORTS-qualifying time of 3:51.17. The UNB team of Jennifer Moore, Sophie Casey Lauren Goodine and Alexie Sanford were second, followed by Memorial's team of Kate Williams, Ali Warren, Heidi Perry and Kathryn Stokes. 

In the final event of the evening, the Acadia team of Bo Stokesbury-Price, Dean Sangster, Gordon Shortt and Kenny Shane won the men's 4x100m relay with a U SPORTS-qualifying time of 3:23.81. They were followed by the Dalhousie team of Christian Payne, Noah Mascoll-Gomes, Liam Ferguson and Adam Bouma in second and Memorial's team of Ruben Rivero, Cormac Bull, Sam Pennell and Matthew Whelan in third.  

At the end of the first day of competition, the team standings are as follows:
