Tigers add two Newfoundlanders for 2022-23

Dalhousie Tigers men’s volleyball head coach Dan Ota is pleased to announce the commitment of Tyler Wiseman and Patrick Beresford for the 2022-23 season.

Wiseman, a 6’5 outside hitter from Clarenville, Newfoundland he helped his Clarenville High School varsity volleyball team to compete in every championship game thus far in the 2021-22 season, including the regional VolleyWest tournament and the School Sports Newfoundland 4A Senior Volleyball Regional Championship. Wiseman also played for Team Newfoundland in their 2019 and 2021 campaigns and is currently training with the 18U Canada Games core team.

“I am very excited to start my studies at Dalhousie, playing at a higher level and representing the Tigers,” says Wiseman. “I’ve heard a lot of great things about Dalhousie University and its athletic program. I am also really looking forward to training under Coach Ota with all of the experience he has at this level.”

Wiseman has been a member of the Honour Roll from 2019-2021 and is on track to earn his spot again in the 2021-22 school year. He will be studying kinesiology at Dalhousie.

Hailing from Mount Pearl, Newfoundland, Beresford will be joining his 18U Canada Games core team teammate at Dalhousie. A 6’6 outside hitter, he has been a member of the O’Donel High School volleyball team since 2019 and has helped lead them to win both the regional and provincial championships in 2021, where he was named the most valuable player of provincials. Beresford has also played for the Pythons Volleyball Club for three years, helping them win the VolleyFest Tournament in 2021.

“After visiting the campus and spending the weekend with the team and coach Ota, it really felt like a place where I can thrive both athletically and academically,” says Beresford. “I look forward to developing my skills on the court with Coach Ota and my future teammates.”

Beresford has been accepted into Dalhousie’s Bachelor of Commerce program.

“We’re very excited to add Patrick and Tyler to our men’s volleyball program,” says Ota. “Patrick fills a need that we have at the right-side position, while Tyler helps to replace some graduating players at the left side position. They both possess the physical upside that we’re always looking for, and I expect them to grow into big roles as they gain experience at the U SPORTS level.”
