Tigers take home opener 3-0 against Sea-Hawks

(HALIFAX N.S.) – The Dalhousie Tigers handed the Memorial Sea-Hawks a 3-0 loss at the Dalplex on Friday November 5. This was the fourth consecutive loss of the season for the Memorial Sea-Hawks who are now sitting at an overall record of 0-4. The Tigers on the other hand are sitting at an even record of two wins and two losses on the season with this home opener victory.

The first set was all Dalhousie as the Tigers took the lead off the first serve and would keep it for the entire set. At the technical time-out, the Tigers were up by ten on the Sea-Hawks by a score of 16-6. The Sea-Hawks would try and crawl their way back but could only tally seven more points and the Tigers would end up taking the first set 25-13.

The Sea-Hawks came out stronger in the second set as they took the lead for the first time by a score of 6-4 on a Tigers attacking error. This lead would not last long as Tigers player Harrison Callaghan would go on a five point serving streak and regain the lead. The Tigers would hold the lead for the rest of the set, closing it out by a score of 25-16.

The final set of the match provided some exciting back and forth action for the 157 fans in attendance at the Dalplex. Each team lost and regained the momentum from one another multiple times throughout this set. At the technical timeout, The Tigers would turn it up a notch and take the game and the match by a final set score of 25-16.

The Memorial Sea-Hawks point leader was Liam Power who recorded a team high of 9.5 total points throughout the match. Power also had three digs, seven kills and two service aces.

The Dalhousie Tigers were led to this victory by Subway Player of the Game Matthew Donovan who had a total of 15.5 points. Donovan also had 12 kills, two service aces and eight digs.

Both teams are back in action for their second game of the weekend Sunday November 6 at the Dalplex. The game is set to start at 1 pm.
