Tigers add Chen for 2022-23

Dalhousie Tigers men’s soccer head coach Alan Jazic is pleased to announce the commitment of Andrew Chen for the 2022-23 season.

Hailing from Vancouver, British Columbia, Chen plays for Fusion Football Club in the British Columbia Soccer Premier League (BCSPL), the top youth league in the province. A left back, he and his Fusion teammates won the SX International Cup in September of 2021 and the U16 division of the 2019 Labour Day Cup held in Seattle, WA each year.

Chen has also spent the last season with the BC Soccer provincial team program.

Accepted to the Faculty of Science, he will be the second generation of his family to study science at Dalhousie as both parents are alumni.

“I am very excited to become a Tiger next year,” says Chen. “My parents have shared fond memories of their experiences at Dalhousie, and I anticipate outstanding athletic and academic opportunities. Additionally, I have heard only positives about the campus life and team culture. I look forward to playing under Coach Jazic and I am thrilled to start my post-secondary career at Dalhousie!”

Chen has completed the International Baccalaureate program at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School in Vancouver, with a predicted score of 34.

“I’m excited to welcome Andrew to the Tigers family,” says Jazic. “Andrew is a technically gifted player with a great left foot. He’s also a very determined young man who plays with high energy and speed which will help our left side. His ability to play both left back and as a left winger will give our team lots of options formation wise. Not only is Andrew a high achiever on the football pitch, he’s also a high achiever in the classroom! I’m really looking forward to welcoming Andrew to the team and working with him over the next four to five years.”

The Tigers return to Wickwire Field on Saturday, September 10 when they host Mount Allison in their home opener.
