Tigers top Huskies 3-1

Halifax, NS –In the Saint Mary's Huskies 2016-17 home opener, the Dalhousie Tigers (1-1) skated to a 3-1 win over the host (0-2) in AUS hockey action Saturday night. 

The visitors secured the victory with three unanswered goals. 

After a scoreless first period, Ben Duffy (Lower Sackville, NS) gave the Huskies a 1-0 lead, at 13:13 of the second frame. Kyle Pereira (Brampton, ON) and Hunter Garlent (Thorold, ON) assisted on the power play goal.

Just more than one minute later, at the 14:16 mark, Alex Pawelczyk (Detroit, MI) knotted the contest with an unassisted marker.

In the third period, the Tigers took their first advantage, at the 10:24 mark, when forward Phil Gadoury (Montreal, QC) found the back of the net. Andrew Wigginton (Sackville, NS) and Jesse Lussier (Ottawa, ON) collected the assists.

On an assist from his goaltender Corbin Boes (Saskatoon, SK), Andrew Rieder (Regina, SK) wrapped up the scoring, at the 19:38 mark, with the Huskies having pulled their goaltender for an extra attacker.

Boes, the Subway player of the game, made 26 saves for the win, while Cole Cheveldave (Calgary, AB) collected 14 stops in the loss.

The teams will return to the ice Friday, October14, when the Tigers will travel to Wolfville to play the Acadia Axemen, while the Huskies will host the rival StFX X-Men in their Homecoming game.
