Tigers Fall 4-1 to Huskies in Season Opener

(Halifax, NS) The season opener for the Tigers and the Huskies took place on Saturday, October 10th at the Halifax Forum. Saint Mary's beat Dalhousie 4-1 in AUS action to start off their 2015-16 season.

The Huskies wasted no time to start the scoring for this game. Only 33 seconds into the opening period, Saint Mary's Bradley Greene (Tilting, NF) scored the first goal of the game from an assist made by Taylor Burke (Halifax, NS) and Gerard Grant (Halifax, NS).  The Tigers trailed the Huskies 1-0 by the end of the first period.

Saint Mary's came out strong again in the second period with a goal from Kyle Pereira (Brampton, ON) 37 seconds into the period. The assist came from the Huskie's Matt Tipoff (Toronto, ON) which brought them to a 2-0 lead over the Tigers.

Dalhousie's Fabian Walsh (Gloucester, ON) brought the team onto the score board with a goal at 11:02 in the second period which made the score 2-1 for the Huskies. Only seconds later, the Huskies carried the score to 3-1 with a goal by Mitchell Maynard (Cole Harbour, NS), which brought the second period to a close.

The Huskies safeguarded their lead when Steven Shipley (Ilderton, ON), assisted by Jamie Doornbosch (Richmond Hill, ON) and Matt Tipoff, scored the final goal of the game at 2:32 of the third period.

The final score of the game was 4-1 to the Huskies over the Tigers. Saint Mary's Kyle Pereira was awarded player of the game and the other two stars of the game were Cole Cheveldave (SMU goalie) and Fabian Walsh (DAL forward).

Dalhousie's next game will be on Friday, October 16 at 7pm at UPEI against the Panthers. Saint Mary's will host another home game on Friday against the St. Thomas Tommies at 7pm.
