Huskies win 6-1 over the Tigers in pre-season game

The Saint Mary's Huskies beat the Dalhousie Tigers 6-1 in pre-season play at the Halifax Forum on September 18th at 7pm with 65 supporters in attendance.

The Huskies started the first period with a goal by Ben Duffy (Lower Sackville, NS) in the 4th minute after three missed shots by Saint Mary's earlier in the game. Michael D'Orazio (Richmond Hill, ON), assisted by Steven Beyers (Orangeville, ON), scored the second goal of the game, which led the Huskies to a 2-0 lead over the Tigers.

In the 19th minute, just before the end of the first period, Dlahousie's Fabian Walsh (Gloucester, ON) capitalized on a power play and scored the first goal for the Tigers with help from Andrew Rider (Regina, SK) and Daniel Walsh (Gloucester, ON). The first period ended with a 2-1 lead for the Huskies.

The Huskies had a solid second period and a quick start with a goal in the 6th minute by Kyle Pereira (Brampton, ON). Minutes later, the Huskies scored another goal by Stephen MacAulay (Cole Harbour, NS) off of an assist from Jamie Doornbosch (Richmond Hill, ON). The Huskies didn't stop there, in the 15th minute; Saint Mary's Calder Brooks (Emerald Place, SK) scored a fifth goal for the team with help from Justin Weller (Daysland, AB). Brooks scored his second goal of the game, and final goal of the period, in the 18th minute from a power play. The second period ended with 6 goals for the Huskies and 1 goal for the Tigers.

Dalhousie and Saint Mary's shared an equal amount of chances in the final period with seven shots for each team, but no goals. The third period ended the same as the second with the Huskies up 6-1 over the Tigers.

The final score was a 6-1 win for the Huskies against the Tigers. The Huskies played again on September 19th against McGill which ended with a 7-1 win for Saint Mary's. Their next pre-season game will be on September 23rd vs. StFX in Bridgewater NS. The Tigers will be playing St. Thomas in Springhill, NS for their next pre-season game on Friday, September 25 at 7pm.
