Huskies defeat Tigers 3-0, win season series 3-1

The Saint Mary's Huskies defeated the Dalhousie Tigers 3-0 Tuesday night at the Halifax forum, playing a game rescheduled from January 22.

The victory is the first back-to-back victory of 2014 for the Huskies, who are 4-2 in their last six contests. The loss adds to the Tigers 2013-2014 woes, and pushes their losing streak to four games.

The win also gives the Huskies the 3-1 season series win against the Tigers.

Steven Beyers opened the scoring for the Huskies just four minutes into the game as he was sprung on a breakaway after a pass from Cory Tanaka, giving the Huskies a 1-0 lead going into the first intermission.

The Tigers powerplay was buzzing, but couldn't one past the Huskies as they went 0-2 on the powerplay in the second period. Lucas Bloodoff notched his first short-handed goal of the year past Bobby Nadeau to give the Huskies a 2-0 lead heading into the final frame.

Things got heated early in the third period as Andrew Roski and Kyle Pereira squared off and both were assessed fighting majors.

Michael D'Orazio added insult to injury with a late goal in the final minute and the Huskies cruised to the 3-0 lead. Curtis Black made 25 saves to pick up the shutout.

Bobby Nadeau made 42 saves in the loss for the Tigers.

The Huskies will travel to Moncton on Friday to take on the Moncton Aigles Bleus at 7:00pm, while the Tigers will play host to the St. Thomas Tommies at the Halifax forum on Friday.
