Flashback Friday (Mar. 11)

This week we are flashing back to our 2004-05 Tigers women’s track and field team. The team had one of the best seasons in Tigers track and field history. The Tigers won the AUS Championship and advanced to the CIS Championship where they would win a bronze medal as a team.

The Team had a number of AUS all-star selections as Hilary Burn, Alicia Dobranowski, Lauren Grant, Joanna Heatcote, Leanne Huck, Lindsay Jones, Leanna MacLean, Caroline McInnes, Monique Perry and Adrienne Power were all honored with the accolade. Dobranowski would be named AUS Championship Athlete of the Meet that season. Adrienne Power won her second consecutive AUS Athlete of the Year award in track and Lindsay Jones won the same award for field. Power was also honoured with the AUS Student Athlete Community Service Award that season. Head Coach Dan Hennigar won his second consecutive AUS Coach of the Year award as well.

Hilary Burn, Alicia Dobranowski, Lauren Grant, Leanne Huck and Adrienne Power were all named first team CIS All-Canadian that season and Leanna MacLean was named a second team CIS All-Canadian. At the CIS Championship meet, The Tigers would claim a number of individual and relay medals on route to their bronze medal team finish. Hilary Burn claimed gold in the 3000m run while Adrienne Power won two gold medals of her own in the 60m dash and the 300m dash. The 4x200m relay team of Leanne Huck, Lauren Grant, Alicia Dobranowski and Adrienne Power became the first Tigers women's relay team to win a CIS gold medal with their victory at the CIS Championships. Leanna MacLean added two medals of her own with a silver medal in the 1500m run and a bronze in the 1000m run.

Adrienne Power was awarded the CIS Championship Athlete of the meet for her triple gold performance. She was also given the BLG award for CIS Athlete of the Year.

The 2015-16 Tigers started their CIS Championships yesterday at York University in Toronto. Tigers sprinter Shannay Beals captured a bronze medal in the women's 60m sprint to give the Tigers their first medal of the competition. The action resumes today and culminates with day three on Saturday.
