CIS Top Ten Tuesday #20 (Feb. 9)

CIS Top Ten Tuesday #20 (Feb. 9)

OTTAWA (CIS) – The University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds are back at No. 1 in CIS men's hockey, while in women's volleyball, the Trinity Western Spartans and UBC Okanagan Heat are tied atop the national rankings for the second time in three weeks.

In other CIS sports, Saskatchewan (women's basketball), Ryerson (men's basketball), Guelph (women's hockey), Toronto (women's & men's swimming / women's track and field), Windsor (men's track and field), McMaster (men's volleyball) and Brock (women's & men's wrestling) all hold on to their pole position.

In men's hockey, UNB (21-3-2) moves up one position and returns to the top for the first time since mid-November following a pair of impressive wins against Top-10 rivals Saint Mary's, 6-2, and Acadia, 7-4. Meanwhile, the Saskatchewan Huskies (21-5-0), who had topped the last two media polls, drop to third place this week after suffering back-to-back losses to archrival Alberta.

In women's volleyball, Trinity Western (18-2) and UBC Okanagan (18-2) met head-to-head this past weekend in Langley, B.C., and the duel at the top lived up to the hype, with the two teams splitting a pair of five-set marathons. The BC rivals each received 58 points in this week's coaches' poll after the Spartans edged the Heat by a single point in last Tuesday's voting.
