Cross country add MacLean and Rogers

Dalhousie Tigers cross country head coach Rich Lehman is pleased to announce the addition of Alex Rogers and Isaac MacLean for the 2023-24 season.

Hailing from Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Alex Rogers is the younger brother of former Tiger Michael Rogers. Alex currently races for Colonel Grey High School and led the team to a Prince Edward Island School Athletic Association title this fall with his first-place finish, improving on his second-place finish in 2021.

This past March, Rogers placed fourth in the U20 category of the 3000m race at the Canadian Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Rogers will be studying commerce at Dalhousie.

“I’m excited to be attending Dalhousie in the fall and joining the Tigers,” says Rogers. “I am looking forward to training with my future teammates and being a part of such a storied program. I hope to contribute to building on the Tigers past successes.”

Joining Rogers on the cross country team is Isaac MacLean. A Moncton, New Brunswick native, MacLean races for Bernice MacNaughton High School (BMHS) and Athletisme Sud Est/South East Athletics (ASEA).

MacLean won the New Brunswick Interscholastic Athletic Association (NBIAA) cross country provincial title this past fall, leading his BMHS team to the overall title. It was his second provincial title and an improvement on his third-place finish at the 2021 championship. Earlier this month, MacLean won the 800m, 1500m and 3000m events at the NBIAA track and field championships.

“I am excited for a new challenge and the opportunity to be pushed in a competitive environment,” says MacLean. “I chose the Tigers because they are a very successful program, and they have high goals set for themselves as a team. During my visit I was able to meet a lot of the guys on the team and I like the atmosphere and chemistry that they have.”

A member of the Principal’s List for the last two years, MacLean will be studying kinesiology at Dalhousie.

“Isaac and Alex will both be very valuable additions to our cross country program,” says Lehman. “They are both provincial champions in cross country and in multiple events on the track. They will both likely take some time to adjust to the increased training and racing volume at this level but they both have tremendous potential in the endurance events.”
